Nuclear Testing

Luvak provides accredited elemental and interstitial analysis for nuclear-grade materials, including GE D50YP12 testing and Regulatory Guide 1.36 compliance testing. As an ISO/IEC 17025 and Nadcap accredited laboratory with more than 50 years in materials testing, we help nuclear suppliers and utilities meet some of the tightest compositional and cleanliness requirements of any industry.

What We Test for Nuclear

Small amounts of the wrong element can change how a material behaves under radiation, so composition and trace content must be verified with accredited methods.

GE D50YP12 Testing

Compositional panels to the specification.

Regulatory Guide 1.36 Compliance

Testing for nuclear-grade materials.

Detrimental Elements (by AA, GFAA, DCP, ICP)

antimony, arsenic, bismuth, cadmium, copper, mercury, tin, indium, lead, silver, zinc, and gallium, plus aluminum, cobalt, magnesium, molybdenum, and phosphorus.

Anions (by ion chromatography and ISE)

chloride, fluoride, bromide, iodide, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, and sulfate.

Specialty

Analysis of the antimony-beryllium rods used in nuclear power plants.

Our Analysis Methods

ICP Elemental Analysis

Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) to ASTM E2371, E1479, E2594, and E3061.

ICP-OES is a versatile, efficient method run on the SPECTRO ARCOS FHX22, providing one of the most accurate testing methods available today.

DCP Elemental Analysis

Direct current plasma emission spectroscopy (DCPES) to ASTM E1097 and E2371.

DCPES is a classic optical method run on the Beckman Spectra Span VI, backed by more than 30 years of experience.

Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy

Flame atomic absorption (AA) spectroscopy to ASTM E663.

Considered less prone to spectral interference, AA provides accurate detection of trace metals using the Perkin Elmer 3030B.

Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption

Graphite furnace atomic absorption (GFAA) to ASTM E1184.

GFAA employs an electric furnace and multiple heating steps remove interferences and isolate the target element, giving sub-ppm determination of trace metals on the Shimadzu AA6650.
